About

About

I am a self-motivated, curious learner interested in the relationship between mass culture and literature in nineteenth-century literature. My current research centers on a discursive study of the representations of female criminals in fiction and in journalistic publications between 1880 and 1910. As a PhD student in French at Vanderbilt University, I have had the pleasure of working as an instructor of novice-level French courses for five semesters. In the pursuit of my PhD, I will also complete a certificate in Second Language Studies, which will enhance my knowledge of pedagogical theory and practice in the college classroom. In 2016, I completed a Master of Arts degree in French and Francophone Studies at the University of Florida, where I wrote a thesis titled, “French National Education on Trial in Vérité by Emile Zola and Les Déracinés by Maurice Barrès.” Prior to my graduate studies, I received a dual B.A. in French and English with a concentration in creative writing from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.

Imagining Medieval Narrative: The Travels of Marco Polo

This site invites students of Marco Polo's Description du monde to explore the intersection of cultures at play in the medieval travel narrative. Using GIS mapping, we trace the people, places, and cultural artefacts mentioned by Polo, thus re-interpreting the text for the 21st-century reader. The site offers text in French and in English. During the spring term, I collaborated with several graduate students to host a Tournée French Film festival open to students and to the Gainseville community.
